ISLAND UPDATE

We’re Open for the Season

Well, Spring has arrived in Bar Harbor. The consensus seems to be that the weather change is 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule. No one is complaining! The tulips and daffodils are up, the Forsythia is in bloom, the birds are singing and everyone is anxious for the warm weather to come. All the shops are getting their Spring chores done, getting ready for a new season of visitors. The paint cans are out, the windows are washed and the shop signs are up.

We opened for the season on April 16th and so did Acadia National Park. We always try to open the weekend before Patriot’s Day, a state holiday in Maine and Massachusetts. The children are out of school and many families come to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park for a visit.

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT®'S SAMANTHA

After a winter of "belly-high" snow, Samantha smells Spring in the air. In spite of a problem with one of her hind legs, she has a spring in her step and lopes slowly out to the field to investigate her domain. Her morning trips are lasting way too long, however, ...how can there be that many new smells???? She's hard of hearing so trying to get her to cut her trips short by calling her name is next to impossible! My only hope is that she'll look up long enough to see my "COME" hand motion. Thank goodness we learned hand signals when we were young.

Samantha is looking forward to a new season of visitors, too! One of her favorite "jobs" is greeting our customers at the door, especially the ones who have had to leave their pets at home. She earns lots of "pats" from those folks. The little visitors like her, too. She is just their size. Soon, Samantha hopes to see some of you in Bar Harbor. If you can't find her on the shop floor, just ask for her. She's usually there every weekend, taking 2 days off during the week to recharge her batteries. She's 13 years old, so we try not to work her too hard!

WEBSITE NEWS YOU CAN USE

We’ve recently added a new feature to our Website that lets you sort results in 4 ways: by Price, by Newest Item, by Item Code and by Description. Here’s how it works. First, narrow your selections by using the Navigation Bar to find a specific category or use the Search Box to find a specific theme of ornaments. Once you have an array of pictures pertaining to your selection (such as those pictured below), use the green buttons near the top of the page to refine your search.

New Sort Layout

Click on "SORT BY PRICE" and all the pictures on the page will be arranged from lowest to highest price. This is an easy way to find gifts under $15.

Click on "SORT BY NEWEST ITEMS" and the pictures will be displayed with the newest items at the top. This feature is especially useful for our customers who have been buying from us for years and want to see "what's new".

SORT BY ITEM CODE" will array the pictures in alphabetical order by Part Number. All the Part Numbers begin with a group of letters, unique to each artist. Consequently, this sort lets you see all items by the same artist, grouped together. Many of our customers have favorite artists they have been following over the years. This is a quick way to find all their items in a particular category.

Finally, if you "SORT BY DESCRIPTION", you'll see the ornaments arranged in alphabetical order by the title of the ornament. For example, if you search for "lobster", you will get a random assortment of lobsters, lobster buoys, lobster traps, etc. This sort function alphabetizes the descriptions so that all the lobster buoys are together, all the lobster traps are together, etc.

In summary, any array of pictures can be sorted in four ways: PRICE, NEWEST, NUMBER and SUBJECT. We hope this helps you refine your search and makes it easier to find just the right ornament.
