ISLAND UPDATE - THE QUEENS WERE HERE!

Bar Harbor is enjoying one of the busiest cruise ship seasons ever with 118 cruise ship visits scheduled between April 29 and October 26, 2011. The busiest months are September and October when 150,000 passengers and crew from 70 cruise ship visits descend on Bar Harbor nearly every day.

New Queen Elizabeth                    Photo by Beverly Bono The Queen Mary 2 also dropped anchor in Bar Harbor on October 6. She's the largest ship of the season at 1,132 feet in length, and room for 2,600 passengers and 1,253 crewmembers.

The Queen Elizabeth made its maiden voyage to Bar Harbor September 24 as the debut of the new Cunard liner. She is a 2,092-passenger ship which is the successor to the recently retired Queen Elizabeth 2. Prior to visiting Bar Harbor, the Queen Elizabeth docked in New York City, Boston, and Portland, Maine. IN MEMORY OF SAMANTHA
After fighting off several life threatening infections, our sweet Samantha died en route to the animal hospital on April 4, 2011 at the age of 14. We are heart broken and share the grief of all dog lovers who have lost their best friend. Because Samantha was a rescue dog, we've added a Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals donation jar on our shop counter, and an SPCA collection box for empty bottles and cans, which we redeem for additional local SPCA donations. We encourage you to support your local animal shelter, and thank you for being such a loyal fan of our sweet Samantha.
